LEARNING ANIMALS / INSTITUTE FOR ZOOANTHROPOLOGY AT MURINGA FARM, SUBUKIA, KENYA IN SEPTEMBER 2014!!!

1st Workshop on Animal Cognition in Kenya
with Learning Animals and Wild Routes of Kenya

The 2-day workshop from Learning Animals/ Institute for Zooanthropology with José Schoorl and Francesco De Giorgio will be held in English (partially translated in Italian for Italian participants if necessary) at Muringa Farm, Subukia Valley (Kenya) and will be followed by a 4-day safari in two beautiful wildlife parks: Nakuru and Maasai Mara.





Programme:
Day 1 (26/09/14): arrival in Nairobi in the morning. Transfer to Subukia (3-hour drive with view on Mount Longonot, Mount Kijabe, Lake Elementeita, Lake Naivasha, Menengai Crater...). Lunch and afternoon at Muringa Farm: lake, forest, colobus, blue monkeys, tree hyraxes, numerous birds, many domestic animals (horses, donkeys, cows, sheep…). Then visit of Subukia village by foot (market, small shops and encounters with local people…). Dinner and night at Subukia Bandas.




Day 2 :  Workshop on Animal Cognition and Zooanthropology:
10.00 am to 5.00 pm: Understanding animal welfare and wellbeing, taking the innate cognitive abilities into account
      •    understanding animal cognition as innate heritage
      •    the importance of cognition to improve emotional, mental and physical quality of life in animals
      •    what does this asks from a human animal perspective
      •    back to our senses
      •    back to ourself
      •    zooanthropology: our relationship with other animals

Day 3: Workshop on Socio-Cognition in Horses and the Cognitive-Zooanthropologic Model:
10.00 am to 5.00 pm: Understanding the affiliative dimension in horses and the dynamics in equine-human relationship from a socio-cognitive point of view
      •    changing perspective, influence of traditions and society
      •    from desired behavior to freedom of expression
      •    from leadership to an affiliative dimension
      •    from control to contact
      •    from expectations to curiosity
      •    experiencing together
      •    the cognitive-zooanthropologic model



Day 4: safari all day in the Nakuru National Park (1-hour drive): black and white rhinos, Rotschild’s giraffes, zebras, Thompson and Grant gazelles, impalas, elands, buffaloes, waterbucks, baboons, vervets, hyenas, jeckals, rock hyraxes, flamingos, pelicans, lions, may be leopards...Picnic on the top of a hill with beautiful view on the lake. Dinner and night at Subukia Bandas.

Day 5: departure for the Maasai Mara reserve after breakfast (6-hour drive). Stop in Narok for lunch at Seasons Hotel or equivalent, arrival at around 4.00 pm. First safari in the reserve (lions, elephants, impalas, Maasai girafes, zebras, gazelles, wildbeests, damaliscus, hardebeests, hyenas, warthogs, dik-diks, jeckals, crocodiles, many birds, cheetahs, may be leopards...). Dinner and night at Mara Kima Camp.




Day 6: safari early in the morning and then in the afternoon in the Maasai Mara reserve. Lunch, dinner and night at Mara Kima Camp. Visit of a Maasai village with our Maasai warden.

Day 7 (02/10/14): departure for Nairobi (5 and a half-hour drive) after a last early morning game drive. Stop in Narok for lunch at Seasons Hotel or equivalent, arrival in Nairobi late afternoon. Transfer to the airport.



Tariff 2014 including transfers, 2-day workshop, private safaris in 4WD, specialized guide, visits, on full board: 1480 euros / person, 4 persons minimum, 8 persons maximum.
Excluded:  flight, visa, insurance, drinks, tips, extras, dinner on day 7.
The deadline for entries is 10th August 2014.
Vehicle for safaris: Land Rover or Land Cruiser 7-9 seats, converted for safaris.
English speaking guide specialized in African flora and fauna.
Vehicle for the transfers: minibus.



Sales terms :
You will receive a confirmation by mail, as well as the amount of the requested deposit (25% of the total), and the bank account number of Wild Routes of Kenya Ltd, on which the transfer can be made.
The balance must be paid by bank transfer 45 days before arrival. The transfer expenses are charged to the customer. Extras by cash on the spot.

Cancellation policy :
0 to 15 days 100% of the total amount of the stay
- 16 to 30 days 75% of the total amount of the stay
- 31 to 45 days 50 % of the total amount of the stay
- More than 45 days 25 % of the total amount of the stay
In case of refund, the transfer expenses will be charged to the customer and will be deducted from the refunded amount.
